Thanks Ginger. I'm glad to see you here and appreciate the kind words. The fact that "using Facebook/MySpace (insert social media here)" has become part of the RFP template really bothers me for some reason. It feels so fake or grasping at staws.

Personally, I don't want to work or teach in a world where PR (or "communications," which I much prefer as a moniker for what I do and teach) is so paint by numbers. We (the profession) should do better and come up with more focused methods for reaching out to audiences that are interested in our products or services.

But that's just my opine.

Heard this just Wednesday -- an AE at Manning, Selvage and Lee told me a client requested a copy of all the Facebook splash pages for all the practitioners working on the pitch for his account.

Some had to go out and create one. All I could wonder is WHY?

I really want my students to read this post, Bob.

Great blog! You should write a motivational blog for the struggling group of those PR grads who can't find a job!

Great post, Bob.

Savvy social media types are generally turned off big time by companies trying to push products or services through social media. Better approach is to allow the pull of products or services through by letting the folks coalesce behind good products or services, thereby generating interest and inscreased sales.
